Fourways Youth Centre, Thursday young men’s group. Pottery painting session, funded by the youth centre ‘Community’

I did my first two free sessions for blind and visually impaired clients. This first session was 'making' and the second session painting their items. They really enjoyed it. These two sessions were funded by Andy Virr our local Cornwall Councillor. I am hoping to get more funding to enable me to run more of these free workshops. There is nowhere else around here where the
blind and visually impaired can do this making and painting pottery.

Blindfold Throwdown and Painting Challenge

I was challenged by Tyrone , one of my clients, who is blind> Various people sponsored me to do the challenge to raise funds to run some free sessions for blind and visually impaired people. The videos were shot by Marie.

Patchwork Pottery Pitcher Project.
(My largest community project)

Each of the two Giant Pitcher mosaics is built out of toughened clay.  Each piece has been hand-painted by a different member or friend of our local Par Bay community as a personal response and reflection of their feelings during the Covid pandemic of 2020. The individual pieces were all kiln-fired, causing each one to warp in a slightly different way, never to be entirely the same again. This alteration represents the personal impact of the changes forced upon us by Covid19: … the fear and the tragic losses we’ve had to endure as it has snatched our loved ones from us. These were then distributed throughout the Par Bay area where people decorated them from the safety of their own homes. The division of the pieces symbolizes the effects of lockdown … how the virus kept many of us all at home, isolated and detached from the rest of the community. The decorated pieces were then collected in and fixed back together, to create a new whole. The re-building of the Pitcher signifies how: …we have fought back in the face of devastation! We haven’t let the virus divide us! Instead of being defeated, we have pulled together, united and stronger than ever. The singular designs of each piece also reflect the unique personalities who make up the essential ingredients of our strong and vibrant community. This finished piece of wall art will remain on display for two reasons: As a permanent tribute to those loved ones we have lost. The two Mosaics can be seen on the walls of the Par Green Co-Op
